Cultural Co-Sleeping

There are different sleep methods that are practiced in various cultures. There are correlations seen between co-sleeping and the rates of infant mortality. (According to World Population Review)

United States of America

In 2021, the United States of America was reported to have an infant mortality rate of "5.36" out of one thousand live births (infant mortality rate).

The most recommended sleep method for an infant is to be placed in an empty crib or bassinet alone as well as being placed on their back. 

Canada

Canada is similar to the United States when it comes to infant sleep methods. Again, it is recommended to place infant in an empty crib or bassinet on their back.

Canada reported that there was an infant mortality rate of "4.43" out one thousand live births in 2021 

(infant mortality rate).

Japan

In 2021, Japan had reported having an infant mortality rate of "1.74" out one thousand live births 

(infant mortality rate).

Unlike the United States and Canada, Japan's most common infant sleep method is co-sleeping.
